Were You Told You Had an Outstanding Deportation Order?
It's a fairly common story: someone applies for a green card on their own and immigration authorities reject their request because there is an old deportation order. They are surprised; they never received a notice or knew that there was a deportation proceeding. Now they are facing trouble.
If this has happened to you, there is something you can do. You probably do qualify for a green card. It's simply a matter of following the right procedures. In this situation, ICE currently has a policy of not pursuing deportation too heavily - it is unlikely you will be deported immediately, but the problem does need to be addressed.
An immigration lawyer at Hill, Piibe & Villegas can file a motion to reopen your old immigration court case. USCIS does not have jurisdiction over a case that was heard in a previous immigration court. Once your case was heard in immigration court, you must always go back to immigration court for a resolution.
Federal Appeals
If you have already been to immigration court and the Board of Immigration Appeals and have not had success, there is still one more option. We can bring your case to the federal courts. Contact Hill, Piibe and Villegas to learn more about appeals and motions to re-open cases.
